I started doing stick fittings because I help youth hockey players — and I see so many kids using the wrong curve, lie, and stick height. Most of the time, the biggest mistake is this:
Kids are using a P28 curve even though the lie is completely wrong for their skating posture.
A P28 comes with its own lie.
A P92 comes with its own lie.
But that does not mean the lie matches how YOU skate.
Connor McDavid uses a completely different skating posture and stick angle than a more upright skater like Mark Stone — so even though they may use similar curves, the lie each player needs is totally different.
My Story: Why Lie Matters More Than People Realize
I was always an upright skater, and coaches constantly told me to bend my knees more. Growing up, I used a P92 curve because that’s what everyone recommended.
But when I moved to the USHL, I switched to a P28 — and the lie completely threw my game off at first. Some shots would go bar down, and the next one would be an accidental ice burner that barely left the ice… and somehow snuck in.
It wasn’t that I couldn’t shoot — it was that:
The P28 lie didn’t match my skating posture or the way my blade sat on the ice.
A player like me needed a P92-style lie on a P28 blade, so the rocker sat correctly and the stick matched my natural mechanics.
When your lie and skating posture don’t match:
-
Your shots become inconsistent
-
Your blade sits wrong during stickhandling
-
You mishandle pucks that should be easy
-
You lose power, accuracy, and feel
Most players — especially kids — have no idea this is happening.
What a Stick Fitting With Me Includes:
When you schedule a stick fitting, here’s what I actually do:
Review your film:
I look at how you skate, shoot, pass, and how your blade sits on the ice.
Analyze your current stick setup:
Curve
Lie
Length
Flex
Blade angles
Stickhandling position
Shot mechanics
Identify what’s hurting your game:
You may think you need a new flex…
But really you need a different lie.
Or a slightly shorter stick.
Or a curve that matches your natural hand position.
Build your perfect stick together:
I give you recommendations based on YOUR:
-
Shooting style
-
Skating posture
-
Position
-
Strength
-
Blade angle
-
Mechanics
-
Goals as a player
Whether you're chasing:
-
Better shooting
-
Better passing
-
Cleaner hands
-
More consistency
-
Better all-around control
I help design the stick that fits your game, not someone else’s.
Why I Do This?
I wasn’t the best skater — so I had to use my brain and my stick as my biggest advantages. Once I learned how lie, height, rocker, and curve actually affected my mechanics, everything changed for me. Now I help players — especially youth players — avoid the YEARS of frustration I went through.
If you want your stick to match YOUR game, not McDavid’s or your favorite NHLer’s…
Schedule a stick fitting with me!
Let me look at your stick and your clips, and I’ll tell you exactly what needs to change.
A small lie adjustment or height change can make a massive difference in your shooting, control, accuracy, and confidence. I’m here to help you dominate games with the perfect stick built specifically for YOU.
