Hi there! I get asked about the 86 curve all the time, so let's talk about it!
I played in the ECHL with the Idaho Steelheads and now I spend my days helping players find the right stick. The curve is the first thing I look at in every fitting. It changes how the puck comes off your blade more than anything else!
What Is the 86 Curve?
The 86 is a P86 pattern. Think of it as a mix between the 92 and the 28. It has the feel of a 92 through the middle of the blade, with more toe than the 92. It is not as big as the 28 though. You get a backhand like a 92 and dangles off the toe like a 28!
The face is open, so the puck lifts quick. It is similar to what Macklin Celebrini and Trevor Zegras use!
Who Is It For?
The 86 is great for players who like to shoot off the toe. Quick releases, toe drags and creative finishes in tight spaces. If you love to make plays around the net, this curve is fun! You still keep a strong backhand like a 92, with the toe for dangles like a 28!
It is also a great middle ground for kids moving up. A lot of younger players start on a 28 because most of their shooting is wrist shots. Once they start taking snap shots and flexing the stick, we move them to a 92 or an 86. The 86 keeps some of that toe they are used to!
How Does It Compare?
AH92 (P92): The most popular curve in the NHL! Mid heel curve with an open face. Great for snapshots, one timers and lifting the puck.
AH28 (P28): Our biggest curve and the best for wrist shots! Big toe curve with an open face.
AH86 (P86): Backhand like a 92, dangles and toe like a 28. More toe than the 92 but not as big as the 28!
If you can't decide between a 92 and a 28, the 86 might be your answer!
Why Is It So Hard to Find and Why We Carry It
The 92 and the 28 are everywhere. The 86 is not one of the classic retail curves, so it can be really hard to find from the big brands. A lot of times players end up hunting for it or paying for a custom order.
We keep the AH86 in stock! It is one of only three curves we stock, and it comes in lefty and righty, black and white, in Senior, Intermediate and Junior. That makes us one of the few places you can just grab an 86 and go.

Why do we carry it? We want to be on the forefront of hockey! We love bringing players the newest curves the big brands don't stock yet. When the game changes, we want you to have the stick for it!
Our whole thing is Elite Hockey Sticks Without the Big Brand Price. Same high level feel, way better price!
