Picking a hockey stick comes down to three things: height, flex and curve. Here is how we size every player at All Hockey. Go by height and weight, not age. Height sets the length. Weight sets the flex!

All Hockey measures stick height from the floor to the top of the stick, not from the heel like most big brands. To compare, subtract about 5 inches. Our 65 inches is about another brand's 60!

How to measure: in skates, stand the stick straight up on its toe. The top should come up between your chin and your mouth. In shoes, take away about an inch. Shorter is better for stickhandling. Longer gives you reach and leverage, and lots of defensemen go a little longer.

Flex by Body Weight

The usual rule of thumb is that your flex should be about half your body weight in pounds. A 100 lb player starts around 50 flex. Use that as a starting point and then go lower. Most players are on a stick that is too stiff, and you want to actually flex and load the stick on quick snap shots and wrist shots.

Our flexes by size: Youth 20 to 30 (20 flex is available in custom), Junior 30, 40 and 50, Intermediate 55 and 65, Senior 70, 75, 85 and 95.

Body weight Half your weight Where we would start
50 lbs 25 30 flex Junior, or 20 flex custom
80 lbs 40 30 or 40 flex Junior
110 lbs 55 50 flex Junior or 55 flex Intermediate
130 lbs 65 55 or 65 flex Intermediate
150 lbs 75 70 flex Senior
180 lbs 90 75 flex Senior
210 lbs 105 75 or 85 flex Senior (Bailey is 210 and uses a 75)

Bailey's Flex Story

When I played juniors I dropped from a 90 flex down to a 75. My shot got quicker, harder and way more accurate. A stick I could actually bend did more of the work for me. Today I am 210 lbs and I still use a 75, which is way under half my weight. If you can't put a visible bend in your stick when you lean on it, it is too stiff. Go lower!

Planning to cut your stick? Every inch you cut makes it stiffer, roughly 3 to 5 flex points per inch. Cut 2 or 3 inches off a 65 and it plays closer to a 75, so pick a lower flex to start.

Curve Basics

Every AH26 comes in three curves, lefty and righty. Full details and pictures are on our Stick Curve Chart.

AH92 (P92 pattern): mid heel curve with an open face. The most popular curve in the NHL and great for snap shots, lifting the puck and one timers.

AH28 (P28 pattern): our biggest curve, with a big toe and an open face. The best for wrist shots and our go to curve for kids up to about 10 to 12.

AH86 (P86 pattern): our newest curve, with more toe than the 92 but not as big as the 28. A great middle ground.

Left or right? Left shot means the stick is on the left side of your body with your right hand on top. Right shot is the opposite!

Sizing FAQs

Should I size by age?

No. Go by height and weight. Height sets the length and weight sets the flex.

How do I measure stick height?

In skates, stand the stick straight up on its toe. The top should land between your chin and your mouth. In shoes, take away about an inch since skates add 1 to 1.5 inches.

Why do your lengths look longer than other brands?

We measure from the floor to the top of the stick, not from the heel. To compare, subtract about 5 inches. Our 65 inches is about another brand's 60.

Does cutting my stick change the flex?

Yes. Flex is rated at full length, and every inch you cut makes it stiffer, roughly 3 to 5 flex points per inch. Adding an extension does the opposite.

I am between two sizes. What do I do?

Go by height first, then pick the flex by weight. When in doubt, go lower on flex.

Can someone just help me pick?

Yes! Book an in person fitting at our shooting center in Irving or a virtual stick fitting from anywhere, or email Bailey@allhockey.com and we answer ASAP.
